Un/Broken

2025

Un/Broken is a series of 28 paintings that come together to form a single fragmented body. Each painting depicts a part of the figure—an eye, a hand, a mouth, a torso—isolated from the whole yet connected to the others through gesture, color, and repetition.

The work grew from my interest in how we experience the body as both whole and fragmented, particularly through memory, trauma, intimacy, and change. Rather than presenting the figure as fixed or complete, Un/Broken allows it to be continually assembled and reassembled. Individual paintings can exist independently, while together they create a larger body that never quite settles into a single form.

The title Un/Broken holds two opposing possibilities at once: being broken and refusing to remain broken. The series considers fragmentation not only as loss, but also as a condition from which something new can emerge.

Un/Broken was first presented at Ivester Contemporary in Austin in 2025 and was subsequently exhibited at Ro2 Art in Dallas and the Schelfhaudt Gallery at the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, in 2026.
